What is Battle of the Boroughs?  The Battle of the Boroughs competition challenges students to explore the five boroughs, interact with local officials, and contribute to New York City’s improvement plans. Teams compete in borough-specific rounds, with champions advancing to the Mayor’s Cup Final at a major NYC arena. For more information about the competition see the link below.

PS/MS 183Q had a top submission for the 2025 Minecraft Education Battle of the Boroughs!  The selected student team was a team of four fourth grade girls who competed live against other top borough teams at the Queens Borough Championships.

On May 17, 2025, our fourth graders competed agains many other schools in the Borough of Queens at Thomas Edison High School. The girls worked together as a team to create a Minecaft build that connected to the theme of rebuilding Rockaway Beach, NY. They did exceptionally well! As a team, they demonstrated amazing collaboration skills from the planning stage of the project to the presentation to the judges. We are so proud of their hard work.  Congratulations to all of the students that participated and made it to Round 2. We are looking forward to next year's Minecraft Battle of the Boroughs Competition in 2026.

THE COMPETITION RULES

Each team can have up to 5 students and can have stand-ins for team members who can’t attend or to achieve a team of 5. Teams will receive a build prompt and have 1 hour to research and plan their build design and then will have 30 minutes to build in a limited space in the competition world as competing schools do the same. Following the build 1 or 2 students will have 5 minutes to take judges on a walkthrough explaining their build design and how it fits the prompts that are scored according to the Round 2 Rubric. The winning design will move forward.
